How does video-based shopping work?

Beam City digitizes products from local shops using video. This ensures you can experience your favourite stores online while seeing the items from every angle. To watch the video, all you have to do is scroll over the image with your mouse and it will automatically play! Add your products to your cart, and options are available to you including delivery and store pick-up. Shopping locally online has never been easier!


How do I create an account?
  1. Click on the Sign-in button on the top right corner of the Beam City home page.
  2. Put in your full name (first and last), & phone number.
  3. A six-digit access code will be texted to you. 
  4. Put in the access code on the confirmation screen. 
  5. If entered correctly – you are signed-in and can continue shopping. (You can always request another code to be texted to you should you experience any difficulties)

What kinds of stores do you feature?

Beam City helps local businesses that sell fashion, furniture, toys and sports goods. We have hundreds of accessories, shoes, dresses and dozens of large furniture pieces like tables, chairs and couches all found in local stores.

For other local businesses that are service based, we provide store walk throughs and a service showcase.


Where do I find which products and stores are available?

When browsing through the Beam.City website, you can shop by area (by clicking “search by area” in the menu, or you can discovery stores by searching through categories, or deals and selecting some of the available products.

All products display which stores they came from, which can be clicked on, and these stores can be exclusively explored.


How is this different from Yelp?

Yelp is a searchable directory of all businesses around you. Beam.City makes local shopping super easy by delivering an immersive in-store experience starting wherever you may be online, so you can discover and shop local products online. When you place orders with Beam.City, you can receive them same day. 


How is this different from Amazon?

Amazon’s marketplace allows store owners and digital vendors alike to upload their inventory and catalog online, and thus competing for the top few ranking positions in order to drive visibility and sales across dozens of categories.

They do not support content creation, listing, or promotion needs, and stores compete with 1,000s of other sellers from around the world for limited real-estate on their site. Beam.City works with local stores to showcase unique products which cannot be found on any other major e-commerce websites.

Beam City supports local stores by targeting ideal local shoppers in their city or close by. We support the full set of needs to help them get online and start selling ASAP, from video-based content, sending shoppers to their store, handling orders, discounts, coupons and store-initiated deliveries.


How is this different from Facebook Marketplace?

Facebook marketplace is primarily for selling used goods from peer to peer, while Beam.city is about shopping new and unique products in your city, easily. Beam.City allows you find local promotions wherever you are online, including on Facebook (using A.I. powered Ads), Google and millions of other sites.


How Does Delivery Work?

We have delivery service providers (delivery beamers) who deliver your local store orders to you. If you order by 3pm, you can get it same-day. Costs are dependent on the product size, weight and fragility. For further inquiries about the delivery service call us at 1-844-623-2326.


What Makes Local Shopping So Special?

Almost everything you need is available in your city and at a competitive price. But the effort of finding them by visiting each store is way too high. Beam.city makes this effortless by bringing the stores and products to you, so you can support local businesses, enjoy faster service, and discover interesting things you never knew were there.


How do I place an order?

To place an order, all you have to do is to choose the item that you would like to purchase and click on “Add to Cart.” There will be a notification appearing on the top right of your screen letting you know that the item has been added to the cart. When you checkout, input your details and your order will be placed.  


How do I search for products?

To search for products, type the name of the item you’re looking for. Our auto-fill options will also provide suggestions. 

You are also able to search by Category and by Area, these options available in the menu on the homepage.


Why does registration require my phone?

Shoppers typically forget their own passwords on shopping sites, but love the experience of a one-time sign-on for WhatsApp and other platforms. Beam.city is striving to recreate that convenience by giving shoppers the ability to shop without restrictive passwords by using their phones as a login-key. 


How to add or remove items to my shopping cart?

When adding an item to your shopping cart all you have to do is choose which product you would like. Click on the shopping cart icon beside the price of the item to add that item to your shopping cart.   

To remove an item, go to your shopping cart which is on the top right corner of the website. You will then click on it and it will bring you to the checkout page. Below the amount you have to pay to purchase, click on remove from cart and your item will be removed. 


How can I use a discount code?

When checking out your cart, there will be a field to apply a discount code to your order. Type it in here, and the screen will refresh with the new balance that has the new balance with the applied discount.

In what country can I use Beam City?

Beam.city is currently only available in Toronto, Canada, but we will be expanding through the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, as well as Montreal, Vancouver, and others in the future.


Which Languages does Beam City support?

Beam City currently only supports English.

Payments


Which credit cards are accepted for payment?

Purchases can be made using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover. We are working on integrating Debit Cards and other instruments.


What happens with my credit card information once the transaction has been completed?

Your payment instrument is stored for use at a later time. It is handled by Stripe.inc at a PCA compliant web server farm, the highest level of protection available for credit transactions. 

Shipping and delivery 


After I receive my order confirmation number how long will my order take?

If you were to order your product before 3:00 pm, it will be delivered to you the same day. Usually, this can take up to 7pm for pick up and delivery. Some larger furniture items may take a few days for delivery, which is specified prior to your purchase.


Is there a system in place where I can track my order? 

You can track orders on the user dashboard. It will show delivery status and other information to help you track your order.


What happens if a shopper does not pick up or receive their package?

We will confirm you are at the delivery location at the time for delivery or we will leave it outside. If neither of these are possible the product will be returned to the store by the next day and the shoppers payment will be reimbursed in 30 days. It is important to be where you say you will be to receive your order.

Returns/ Exchanges 


How can I return my item? 

Beam.city runs an exchange first return policy. For exchanges you need to go to the store where you purchased that item and pick an item of equal or lesser value. 


Is it possible to get a refund on the order? 

You will be getting an in-store credit for the item that you returned. Refunds can be granted in special cases of loss, damage or destruction.


Am I able to exchange the item if it was defective or faulty? 

Faulty items are not allowed on the platform, but if one happens to be sold, it will be exchanged for free by Beam.city.


Can I return an item for an exchange instead of a refund? 

Yes. Items returned on Beam City are refunded in store credit by default.


Which items are you not allowed to return? 

Items in opened boxes, fashion that has been used, furniture that has been used or scoffed cannot be returned.


How can I cancel my order?

Use the orders dashboard to review and cancel Beam.city orders.

How does video-based shopping work?

Beam City trains videographers to take short videos (up to 15 seconds) of products in-stores. This ensures the product can be seen from every angle, and in a state similar to how it is used so that what you see is what you get.


What is the benefit of using videos to display the products?

Videos create a unique visual for consumers and allows them to be immersed in a great shopping experience. They gain the ability to shop like they are in-store, without any hassle. Consumers see the product in its whole view with lots of details without getting mislead. 

Additional benefits include:

  • Videos give a more natural look at products, unlike images and text which lose a lot of detail or are unrepresentative of the product. 
  • Videos allow shoppers to understand product details quicker – a picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is thousands of pictures. 
  • People are 2x more likely to purchase with video.
  • People are 12x more likely to share your product content if it is video than images and text combined.
  • People are 4x more likely to watch your product  video than read text or look at images.
  • Video can be reused in several creative ways, so you can continue to show your products with the same content.

What do videos usually look like? 

For most products like furniture, toys, clothing and jewelry videos are live shots of the product from all angles. Whereas for digital or live entertainment (like video games, or shows) they are usually a trailer of the game. 


How is this different from Yelp?

Yelp is a searchable directory of all businesses around you, with limited support for ordering food. They help you put your products on their site with thousands of daily visitors, so you can be found by people looking for your business or businesses like yours. Only visitors of Yelp can find you.

Beam.city is digitized store experience with video and lets your broadcast it to thousands of people near you who are looking for your business, businesses like it, or your products. In addition, Beam.city makes it easy for customers to discover what you are up to with a lot less effort, and sell to consumers directly online.

Finally, Beam.city uses technology to save you over 1500hrs/year, and gain a place with guaranteed reach to the customers you want.


How is this different from Shopify?

Shopify is a hosting platform for custom eCommerce sites, helping you make a customized site to your own specifications at your own custom domain. They have amazing features you can use to add functionality, and potentially expand the capabilities of your site. 

However, they do not support your content creation needs right away, local fulfillment or promotion needs. Also, managing the site is up to you. What we found is that most physical retailers do not have success there – they have to become experts at web design, SEO, content creation, operations, promotions and more just to get started.

How Does Delivery Work?

What are the differences between all of the store pricing subscriptions? 

There are 4 different store subscriptions that you can choose from.

Where does all the data get stored?

Beam.city stores all the multimedia data on products on cloud servers hosted by IBM and Microsoft. This protects your privacy from predator networks and malign actors, while giving us the greatest flexibility to serve your needs. These providers have a 99.9999% uptime guarantee meaning your store is up to date and within reach.


Will I be able to see how many sales my items are generating in the stores? 

Yes. Every order is sent to you so you see them when they come in, and they are tracked so you have peace of mind about your sales performance online. We let you track in-store sales, and give you a way to redeem automatically generated coupons so you can also track online-to-offline promotion performance.


Will I be able to see statistics on monthly sales? 

You can track sales daily and monthly on your store dashboard by manually entering shopper data.


Will I be able to see statistics based on in-store activity?

Beam.city gives store owners tools to track store-traffic and sales, so you can see what is going on in your store with minimal effort. You can automate this further by upgrading your subscription with our hardware and analytics package, that will track store walk-ins, dwell zones, and help close the online-to-offline attribution gaps for your campaigns.


How do I create flyers to promote my store? 

There are easy to follow tutorials to make your promotions successful, you can find them on our tutorial page by clicking on help on the top right of the page.


If I have a product that does not fall into fashion, furniture or kids and toys will I still be able to post my items? 

Beam.city is open to ideas on products to offer local shoppers. We are interested in Beauty, Cars, Real-estate, Entertainment, Tourism, Hotelling and other services shoppers need. Let us know by sending us a note at hi@beam.city.


How long would it take my item to be uploaded onto the Beam City Website? 

You can schedule a videography session within 1 day, and once complete, your products are processed and put online by the next day. This way you can be digitized and visible to shoppers in less than a day.


Is there a limit to how much I can post? 

In order to manage product video quality, we do not allow store owners to post content themselves. However, you can upload 1000 videos and images for use in running promotions on-demand. There is no limit to the number of products Beam.city can digitize for you, as well.


What happens when a shopper comes to my store?

When shoppers visit your store after seeing your Beam.city promotion, they will frequently be armed with a Coupon that they will attempt to redeem in-store. Your store dashboard includes an interface you can use to do this, so the shopper can claim their discount as well as any reward you set for them. See our tutorials for how to do this by clicking on the help button on the top right of the page.


What happens if I receive an online order?

When an order comes in from Beam.city, you need to do the following:

  1. Is the product still in-stock? Can it be fulfilled in the time requested (today, tomorrow)?
  2. If yes accept the order
    1. Beam.city automatically charges the shopper at this time.
    2. Place the order in a bag.
    3. Apply a Beam.city “Thank you” sticker.
    4. Set it aside for pick up by the shopper or by the delivery Beamer.
  3. If no, reject the order
    1. The shopper is not charged.
    2. If you are out of stock, please go to the products area and flag the product appropriately or deactivate the product.

Am I able to choose which items I would like the consumer to view first? 

You can set which products appear on your promotions, as well as which products are features on your video-based web-store. This way you can set which products will give that all important first impression.


Can I rearrange my items in my collection?

No. Beam.city allows shoppers to set the sort order of products when they are shopping on a listing. You have the ability to choose which products appear on the video-web-store, or on an online promotion. See those notes above.


What happens if a shopper does not pick up or receive their package?

What happens if my product is lost on transit? 

We do our best to not let this happen. If it does, Beam.city will work with the insurance provider and product arbitration service to settle on a the best solution to the product loss.


How does Beam City protect user information with the vendors? 

User  information is stored as part of a Beam.city account and high level information like name, address and phone number are only shared to relevant vendors on a per-order basis.
